Man in black SUV opened fire in parking lot, witnesses say

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – One man was killed and another was wounded in a shooting Saturday at a Fort Lauderdale gas station, police said.

Tracy Figone, a spokeswoman for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, said the man was fatally shot about 2 p.m. at the Shell gas station in the 800 block West Sunrise Boulevard.

Witnesses said a black SUV drove into the crowded gas station and someone inside the vehicle began firing. A cell phone video shows the victim laying on the ground.

"A black SUV drove by, had one guy hit him on top of the head with a gun, bullet wound. Other dude looked like he just got shot, you know, by like a stray bullet. They didn't even look like they were trying to kill him because he was still crawling around the floor," said a neighbor who wouldn't show his face out of fear. He said the man who was killed was shot in the head.

Friends identified the victim as Gerald Gibson, a man in his 40s nicknamed "G."

Another man selling CDs at the gas station was also shot.

"They should put their guns down," one person said. "You want to argue with somebody, argue with somebody with your mouth, not with a gun."
