Van falls from fourth floor of parking garage at Miami International Airport

American Airlines employee taken to JMH with minor scrapes, bruises

MIAMI – An American Airlines employee was injured Friday morning when he crashed a white van into a wall, sending it falling from the fourth floor of a parking garage at Miami International Airport, authorities said.

The incident was reported shortly after 8:15 a.m. at the employee parking garage at 4200 NW 21st St.

An airport spokesperson said the vehicle drove through the wall of the garage and landed on its roof.

Miami-Dade police identified the victim as Orlando Luna, 59, who was driving a company van. Authorities said fellow employees helped Luna out of the van after the crash.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said Luna was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he is listed in good condition.

An American Airlines spokeswoman said Luna suffered minor scrapes and bruises.

According to Alexis Aran Coello, "Preliminary information reveals this was just an accident."

Aran Coello said Luna is a tenured employee who works in the airline's training department with the aircraft maintenance team.

She said the incident happened at the parking garage near the airline's maintenance hangar.

Authorities said the incident is not affecting airport operations.

Details leading up to the crash are under investigation.
