Police say woman had puncture wounds caused by unknown object

MIAMI – A woman was found dead in her wheelchair Friday morning outside a Publix in Brickell, police said.

Miami police said the woman was found slumped over in her wheelchair outside the Publix on Southwest Seventh Street just after 7 a.m.

"Passerby's possibly [saw] her there and decided to call the police, just so they can check on her well-being," Officer Kiara Delva said.

Paramedics arrived and found puncture wounds to her chest caused by an unknown object.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We do not know if this is suicidal," Delva said. "We do not know if it was accidental. We do not know if there was a motive behind it."

Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
