Miami police arrest man after shooting in Liberty Square

'I know the person who shot me,' victim tells police

MIAMI – A 37-year-old man has been arrested after police said he shot another man early Saturday in Miami's Liberty Square section.

Jean Rudnell George faces a number of charges, including attempted murder and drug possession. He is also accused of violating his probation for driving without a license.

Kiara Delva, a spokeswoman for the Miami Police Department, said George shot the victim in the leg about 2 a.m. in the 700 block of Northwest 60th Street.

"I know the person who shot me. His name is Jean George," the victim told the police in Creole, according to the arrest report.

The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

George's girlfriend told police that he fled the scene of the shooting in her car, a red 2015 Chrysler 200, the report said. Police tracked down the car to an apartment complex in the 5600 block of Northwest 7th Court, the report said.

When George was arrested he told police that he had emptied the whole magazine of his gun while shooting at the victim, the report said.

George is currently being held in Miami-Dade County's Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
