MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – One man was killed and another man was wounded Monday in a shooting in Miami Gardens, police said.
Officer Carlos Austin, a spokesman for the Miami Gardens Police Department, said a gunman fired multiple times at a group of people near Northwest 15th Avenue and Northwest 207th Street, killing one man and grazing another.
The man who was killed was identified Tuesday as Maceo P. Wright, 26.
Austin said the wounded man ran to the 1300 block of Northwest 203rd Street. Paramedics took the victim to a nearby hospital. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Police said the shooter may be driving an older model white Toyota Camry.
Police handed out fliers in the area Tuesday, hoping someone would have information about the shooting.
Meanwhile, residents throughout the city are feeling a violent ripple effect in their community.
"We noticed that there were a lot of police around -- Miami Gardens PD. We didn't know particularly what was going on," Miami Gardens resident Courtney Odom said.
Odom told Local 10 News about her experience riding by a crime scene with her boys on their way to summer camp.
"The kids are kind of afraid, and they are worried and they are not quite sure what to do or who to turn to," Odom said.
Miami Gardens police Chief Delma Noel-Pratt drove home the point Tuesday that the public can turn to her department.
Local 10's Alex Finnie spoke with the chief at the Coffee With Cops meetup -- a chance every month for the public to meet with law enforcement.
"You don't have to talk today if you don't want to. Call me, email me. Let's get this solved," Noel-Pratt said.
Anyone with information about Monday's shooting is asked to call Detective C. Pacheco at 305-474-1583 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
