COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – A bank robber was arrested Monday after he led Coconut Creek police on a short chase, authorities said.

Scott Leamon, a spokesman for the Coconut Creek Police Department, said Shelby Eugene Pole, 51, of Riviera Beach, entered a TD Bank branch in the 6700 block of State Road 7 just after 2 p.m. and demanded money from the a bank employee. Pole told the employee that he was armed, Leamon said.

Pole then fled in gray Nissan Altima with an undisclosed amount of cash, Leamon said. A police officer in a patrol car caught up to Pole in the 3600 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard and attempted to make a traffic stop, but Pole refused to pull over, Leamon said.

While police pursed him, Pole crashed his car at Southwest 18th Street and Powerline Road in Palm Beach County. Police said Pole immediately surrendered after the crash and was taken into custody.
