POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A woman was killed and a man was injured in a drive-by shooting late Tuesday night in Pompano Beach, deputies said.
Keyla Concepcion, a spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff's Office, said a gunman shot Tyquesha Reid, 26, and Antonio Tubbs, 32, about 11 p.m. outside an apartment complex in the 3000 block of Northwest Second Street.
Reid was pronounced dead at the scene. Tubbs was taken to Broward Health North with non-life-threatening injuries, Concepcion said.
Reid's cousin said she was standing just feet from Reid, known as Kiki, when she was gunned down.
"He shot my cousin, Tyquesha, in the head," Reid's cousin said. "We can't have her back. I was just with her."
Deputies remained at the scene Wednesday morning, gathering evidence.
"It's senseless," nearby resident Pamela Hightower told Local 10 News. "We're killing each other. Why? This was a young girl who went to work every single day, every single day taking care of her child, and now she's gone."
People who live in the area said they have provided investigators with several leads, which they hope will result in an arrest.
Relatives said Reid was trying to get her life together and was working hard to provide for her 5-year-old son.
"She was just getting promoted to be a manager," Reid's cousin said. "She had nothing to do with this at all."
Neighbors said several shootings have happened in the area since the Fourth of July.
"We have called the officers," Hightower said. "We have multiple calls out here to this one location because of the same group of kids that keep hanging out, and we knew something like this was going to happen."
Investigators are searching for a dark-colored vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective John Curcio 954-321-4210 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
