Man accused of killing long-time partner near her place of employment

DORAL, Fla. – Two people were killed Wednesday morning in a murder-suicide in Doral, authorities said.

The shooting was reported in the parking lot of a shopping plaza in the area of Northwest 26th Street and 87th Court.

Doral police said one person was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center.

Miami-Dade police, who have since taken over the investigation, later confirmed that a man, identified as David Jumco, 65,was found dead behind the wheel of a white sedan. Police said a woman, identified as Magaly Benitez, 62, later died at the hospital.

"I saw a bunch of cops coming, detectives (and) a body on the floor," witness Saimy Tirado said.

Authorities said Jumco and Benitez were a longtime couple who have an adult child together.

Police said Jumco was the shooter. The shooting occurred near the business where Benitez worked, authorities said.

The vehicle has since been towed from the scene, taken by police as evidence.

"It's pretty crazy that I'm working here on a normal day and they just shot someone," Tirado said. "It's crazy."

A motive for the shooting is unknown.
