5 dead after fiery crash in St. Lucie County, authorities say

WHITE CITY, Fla. – Five people were killed and at least two others were injured late Friday in a multicar crash in St. Lucie County, authorities said.

Brenda Stokes, a spokeswoman for the St. Lucie County Fire District, said three cars were involved in the crash around 10:30 p.m. at South 25th Street and West Midway Road in White City.

Officials with the Florida Highway Patrol said a GMC Yukon was heading south on South 25th Street approaching Midway Road. A Dodge Dakota was also heading south on the roadway behind a BMW 325i.

The GMC approached the Dodge and BMW at a higher rate of speed. Troopers said the front of the GMC struck the rear of the Dodge, which caused the front of it to strike the rear of the BMW.

The impact caused the Dodge to become fully engulfed in flames, according to the FHP.

Troopers said five people inside the Dodge were pronounced dead at the scene. A 16-year-old was among those killed in the crash, Stokes said.

The driver in the GMC suffered critical injuries and a passenger in the BMW suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the FHP.
