Police called to unsubstantiated threat at St. Thomas University

Miami Gardens school contacted police as precaution

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – An unsubstantiated threat caused a campus scare Thursday night at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, the school said.

Miami Gardens police were investigating "an unsubstantiated rumor of a threat taking place at St. Thomas University," school spokeswoman Joyce R. Forchion said in a statement.

St. Thomas University contacted police as a precaution.

"Since there was no substantiated threat, the institution was not placed on lockdown," Forchion said.

Nevertheless, the SWAT team and a police helicopter searched the campus, which was deemed safe.

"The safety of our students, faculty and staff remains paramount as we maintain a secure campus environment for everyone who visits the university," Forchion said.
