Officers track down Coral Gables carjackers in minutes, police say

3 teenagers stole couple's vehicle at gunpoint, officials say

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Three teenagers were arrested Monday after police said they carjacked a couple at gunpoint in Coral Gables.

Officer Kelly Denham, a spokeswoman for the Coral Gables Police Department, said the teens stole a gray Toyota around 8 p.m. in the 1500 block of San Ignacio Avenue.

"They gave up their car which is the right thing to do," Denham said of the victims.

A few minutes later, officers spotted the Toyota in a parking lot off U.S. Route 1 across from a garage at the University of Miami. They arrested the three men without incident, Denham said.

"I think they were trying to find a place to lay low until they could go to another location," Denham said.

Police also said they retrieved a weapon inside the car as well.
