Bomb scare prompts evacuation of Miami-Dade County Burger King

Man acting strangely left package inside restaurant, police say

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A Burger King was evacuated for several hours Tuesday after a bomb scare in southwest Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade County police said witness noticed a man with a package acting strangely inside the resturant in the 7000 block of Bird Road. The man was taken into custody, police said.

The bomb squad was called to investigate and detonated the suspicious package without incident.

A view from Sky 10 showed a bomb squad technician enter the Burger King and walk out a few minutes later.

A portion of a nearby storage facility next to the Burger King was also evacuated.

Police closed a stretch of Bird Road, as well as the entrance and exit ramps to the Palmetto Expressway, as a precaution. The roadways have since been reopened.
