1 detained after SWAT standoff in North Miami Beach

Man barricades himself inside apartment on Northeast 168th Street

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A SWAT standoff in North Miami Beach ended Friday morning with one person being detained, police said.

The SWAT team was called to an apartment complex on Northeast 168th Street, where a man barricaded himself inside one of the units.

Pedro Santiago lives in the complex where authorities were trying to get the man to come out of his unit. Santiago said he saw the wife of the man downstairs when he was leaving the building and knows there was at least one child inside the unit with the barricaded man.

A barricaded man sticks his head out the window of a North Miami Beach apartment building.

"I know the one kid's inside the apartment with the daddy," Santiago said. "I don't know if something is wrong, but he's drunk."

At one point, the barricaded man stuck his head out of an apartment window, pulling back the blinds for several seconds.

After about four hours, North Miami Beach police said on Twitter that one person was detained.

No injuries were reported.
