Person who fled scene taken into custody

HIALEAH, Fla. – A woman was killed and a man was injured in a hit-and-run crash Monday night in Hialeah, police said.

The crash happened at East Fifth Avenue and East 41st Street about 7:40 p.m.

"We were playing dominoes and we heard -- we heard a big noise. It was incredible," Angel Maza, who lives nearby, said.

Surveillance video shows the driver of a white car running through a stop sign before slamming into the side of a passing SUV.

The force of the crash was so great, it pushed both vehicles into a parked car across the street, causing serious damage, before eventually taking out a metal gate.

Hialeah police said a man in his 60s was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital. His condition was unknown.

A woman in her 60s was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

"What I feel sorry about is the lady that got killed. That's very sad," Maza said.

The person who struck the couple and ran from the scene was taken into custody, police said.

His or her identity has not yet been released.
