PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Three people are dead and a child has been injured after an apparent domestic-related incident in Pembroke Pines.
Pembroke Pines police Capt. Adam Feiner said 911 dispatchers received information Sunday night that a man killed his family and "intended to end his own life."
When police arrived and entered the home on Southwest 156th Avenue near Southwest 16th Street, inside the gated Grand Palms Golf and Country Club community, they found multiple victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Three victims were dead, but a child at the home survived and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police spokeswoman Amanda Conwell said the suspect is not at large, and Feiner said there is no threat to the community.
A woman who lives nearby said she saw police detaining a man near her home.
"The cops said, 'Put the gun down.' Like, I guess he was out here with the gun," Sara Brownstein said. "I thought what I saw was people getting arrested."
Unmarked medical examiner vehicles drove away with the bodies early Monday.
The names of the victims and the suspect are being withheld.
Residents are now wondering what could have led to the tragedy.
"As a community, we don't know what we can do about it when people are armed and they use it to perpetrate crimes against their own family," resident Jorge Cantero said.
The Pembroke Pines Police Department is expected to release more information about the shooting Monday afternoon.
