Students treated after reported illness at Bridgeprep Academy

Hazmat team gives building all-clear; 5 students treated for minor symptoms

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Five students at the Bridgeprep Academy in Kendall were treated Tuesday after falling ill at the school.

Sky 10 was above the school as a building on campus was evacuated.

"It's very alarming, especially in this day and age," one mother said as she waited outside the school to find out what was happening.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue told Local 10 News reporter Andrew Perez that the students were taken to a hospital to be treated for minor symptoms, including nausea and faintness.

"Our hazardous materials team made entry into the building and monitored the building, trying to locate the source of what was causing the illness," Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Kirsten Miller said.

Rescuers believe the students were in different rooms when they started feeling sick.

While the hazardous materials team checked the building as a precaution, nothing of concern was found. A secondary team is investigating the incident just to be sure.

The all-clear was given shortly after 1 p.m.
