Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alvaro Feola said two men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Feola said the car overturned and landed on its roof on a grassy swale near Anglers Avenue.

The car landed on a grassy swale near some railroad tracks.

The victims were identified as driver Jacob Horst, 23, of Plantation, and passenger Joey Orologio, 23, of Fort Lauderdale.

It's unclear if the cause of the crash was weather related, but the outer bands of Hurricane Dorian were bringing wind and rain to the region.

The Florida Department of Transportation and state and local authorities urged drivers to avoid the roadways while Hurricane Dorian was churning over the Bahamas in the Atlantic Ocean.

Although the powerful storm is forecast to remain offshore, its proximity prompted the National Hurricane Center to extend watches and warnings across the Florida and Georgia coasts.
