Gunfire erupts at Southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood, 1 man rushed to hospital

A man on an ATV was rushed to the hospital by a good Samaritan late Tuesday night. According to neighbors, sounds of gunfire erupted at 158th Avenue and Newton Road with a man on an ATV the apparent target.

MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – A man on an ATV was rushed to Homestead Hospital by a good Samaritan late Tuesday night with apparent gunshot wounds, investigators said.

According to neighbors, sounds of gunfire erupted near 158th Avenue and Newton Road with a man on an ATV the apparent target. Miami-Dade Police Department investigators found casings and a red four-wheel ATV with blood on it at the scene, officials said. Preliminary reports suggest that the victim was riding the ATV when he was shot by an unknown assailant. 

The driver of the ATV was put into the back of a pickup truck by one witness and driven to Homestead Hospital, witnesses said. According to investigators, he was unresponsive and airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center. 

A resident near the scene reported at least one bullet from the shooting went through his window and struck a wall inside his home.

The status of the victim is unknown as the investigation continues.
