Burned body found inside Pompano Beach apartment

BSO detectives investigate man's death

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Broward Sheriff's Office detectives are investigating after a burned body was found Tuesday night inside a Pompano Beach apartment.

A resident first alerted the landlord about a foul smell at the apartment complex near Northwest Seventh Street and Northwest Seventh Terrace.

Marcia Dixon, whose sister lives next door to where the man was found, said she saw the body being pulled from the complex.

"The smell was very awful," Dixon said.

Dixon's sister "smelled something burning, so she called the landlord and the landlord came over."

That's when the landlord found the body and called deputies.

Apparently, the body had been there for a while.

"They say it's been, like, three days," Dixon said.

BSO homicide detectives and arson investigators, along with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, were investigating.

A burned mattress could be seen outside the Pompano Beach apartment where a man's burned body was discovered.

A burned mattress could also be seen outside the apartment.

Deputies haven't released the victim's name or anything further about the death.
