According to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Adam Linhardt, a 30-year-old victim was driving south near Mile Marker 104 in a Key Largo school zone around 8 a.m. when an issue arose with the suspect driver, later identified as Martinez.

Linhardt said Martinez exited his vehicle and punched the victim’s vehicle several times and later hit the mirror with his hand when both vehicles were moving again.

The victim told deputies that Martinez then fired several shots at his vehicle, causing two flat tires.

Deputies said they later found Martinez at his job.

Authorities said he later confessed to deputies and the .40-caliber handgun was recovered.

Martinez was taken to a nearby jail.

A motive for the shooting remains unclear.
