MARGATE, Fla. — Margate Fire Rescue personnel suspected lightning was to blame for a house fire on Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters responded at about 5:50 p.m. on Saturday to a house along Southwest 62nd Terrace near Fifth Street.

“Preliminary investigation is showing that a fuse box may have been struck by lightning, which caused a fire to start in the residential garage,” Lt. William Snyder, a spokesman for MPD, wrote in a statement.

No one was injured, and the official report on the cause of the fire had yet to be announced on Saturday night.

“We are currently awaiting the Fire Marshal to arrive and confirm,” Snyder wrote.
