3 boats destroyed after marina fire in Pompano Beach

2 boats completely underwater

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – An investigation is underway after a marina in Pompano Beach caught fire Monday night.

Three boats caught fire, and two of those boats ended up completely sinking.

It happened at 2705 North Riverside Drive at the Hillsboro Inlet Fishing Center.

Firefighters said the fire started on one boat and spread to the others. They said it took an hour to put out the flames.

Although the fire was contained, the rest of the fleet is affected as well. Those who were close enough to the fire suffered considerable damage. As officials continue their investigation, boat crews are left to wait for clearance before they can do their jobs.

"Any closer and it would have affected me big time," Capt. Stan Hunt said. "You know, I have two kids, young kids, so I'm struggling to make it as it is."

Hunt runs Rebound Sports-Fishing. His boat barely escaped the fire. Many of the owners said they've been at the marina for decades and were quick to help each other out.

City spokeswoman Sandra King said no one was injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
