MIAMI - The first American Girl store in Florida opened on Saturday.

"It's about a brand steep in educational content and beautiful toy product," said Wade Opland with American Girl.

American Girl launched in 1986 with three dolls. Today, there are nine historical characters, the bitty babies, bitty twins, the My American Girl dolls, and this year's girl of the year, McKenna.

The store at The Falls is American Girl's 14th.

"The Miami store is about 16,000-square-feet and you can see, it's a doll wonderland," said Opland.

"We've been counting the days, walking around, so we are all very excited," said Kelly Johnson.

The dolls represent a 9 to 11-year-old girl from a variety of ethnicities focused on various periods throughout American history.

"This is our bookstore for American Girl, that carries all of our great books," said Opland.

The store also has a bistro and carries the clothing line.

"Here we are walking into our Itty Bitty department," said Opland. "This is all about the girl 3 to 6-years-old, the nurturing play."

What stands out about the dolls is that customers can choose their look.

"A girl might get a doll that looks like her or her best friend," said Opland.

The dolls can also get more than 100 hairstyles.

"If you do have a doll that gets loved or pampered by a dog or brother or losses an arm, we have a doctor in the house," said Opland.
