1 dead, 2 injured in northwest Miami-Dade home invasion

Shooting happened inside MonteRey community

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was shot to death and two women were injured during a home invasion in northwest Miami-Dade County, police said.

The shooting happened after 1 p.m. Friday in the MonteRey neighborhood in the 18000 block of Northwest 52nd Path.

Miami-Dade police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said three men wearing hoodies knocked on the victim's front door. Once the door was opened, the trio forced their way into the home, police said.

There were five people -- three women and two men -- inside the home at the time, Zabaleta said. The two men began to struggle with the intruders, at which point one of the intruders pulled out a gun and shot the 26-year-old victim.

Zabaleta said two women suffered minor injuries in the altercation and were taken to a hospital.

Investigators are asking for the public's help in identifying and finding the people responsible.

"We still are waiting to get a better description," Zabaleta said.

A motive for the home invasion was not immediately known.

"It appears to be robbery at this point, but we still don't know, until we do an inventory of the residence, exactly what was taken," Zabaleta said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
