Bal Harbour police chief in serious condition at Mount Sinai Medical Center

Chief Mark Overton appointed to position in 2014

BAL HARBOUR, Fla. – Bal Harbour police Chief Mark Overton was taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center on Monday morning, Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said. 

Miami Beach police received a call at about 10:20 a.m. about a man suffering a medical episode near South Point, Rodriguez said via email.

That patient was Overton. 

Rodriguez said Overton was listed in serious but stable condition.

Overton, who was born in Miami Beach, was appointed as Bal Harbour's police chief in January 2014. He grew up in Hialeah and graduated from Hialeah Senior High School in 1981. 

At 24 years old, Overton joined the Hialeah Police Department. In 2012, he accepted a position as deputy chief. 

Overton has a bachelor's degree in public administration from Barry University.

Police Capt. Miguel de la Rosa is serving as acting police chief while Overton is in the hospital.
