Decomposing body found in Miami apartment

Police called to conduct welfare check on woman, discover body

MIAMI – Police are investigating after a body was found Thursday morning in a Miami apartment.

Miami police were called about 6 a.m. to conduct a welfare check on a woman at the Serenity on the River apartment complex.

Officers told Local 10 News that a woman from out of state called police to conduct a welfare check on her daughter.

When officers arrived, they found a decomposing body in an apartment on the fourth floor of the building.

Neighbors said it's been two weeks since they've seen the woman who lives in the apartment.

Detectives wouldn't confirm if the body was that of the woman.

Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Fallat said detectives don't suspect foul play at this time. She said the death is considered "unclassified" until the Miami-Dade County medical examiner's office determines a cause.
