MIRAMAR, Fla. - Miramar police are searching for the driver of a car that struck and killed a 6-year-old boy on Wednesday.

The child was identified as 6-year-old D'Andre Binns.

Stacy Ann Smith told Local 10 that she had just left the McDonalds at Southwest 62nd Avenue and Miramar Parkway when she saw a white car hit the child and take off.

She rushed over to help and saw the boy lying face down in a pool of blood just short of the intersection. She could barely feel a pulse.

Miramar Police tell Local 10 what Smith saw was the end of a tragic series of events.

Evidence and other witnesses at the scene tell detectives the boy was hit further up Miramar. He was crossing the street just steps behind his Uncle who was holding his daughter in his arms when the car hit the boy, launching him onto the hood.

Police say the driver swerved twice and when the child fell to the ground the driver ran over his body before taking off.

He was last seen driving down State Road 7.

Police are looking for a white car with heavy damage to the hood and possibly the windshield.

A witness at the hospital told detectives the car was a newer model white Dodge Charger with possibly 22-inch rims.
