BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. - If success is measured in numbers, than the Boys and Girls Club of Broward County is peaking in performance.

"Last year, we served over 12,000. We had 12,000 members in the club," said CEO. Brian Quail. "This particular facility, we have over 970 members that are attending. We will see on average, during the summertime, over 400 plus kids a day."

Along with mastering the social graces, children ages 7 through 18 are taught to excel in reading, math, computers, sports and fine arts. The club offers nutrition, college preparation, and mentoring programs. Annual membership is $15.

"Sixty percent of our members come from families of single parent households. Forty-seven percent of our members come from families with annual incomes of less than $20,000, annually," said Quail.

All of that is weaved into the club's longstanding motto -- "Fun with a purpose."

"I feel excited. I want to see my friends. I want to see the new people to be friends with them," said Larissa De Freitas.
