Camp counselor accused of having sex with middle school girl

Sylvester Perrone, 19, met girl last summer at Church by the Glades, BSO says

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A man who was working as a camp counselor at a church last summer was arrested Tuesday on allegations that he had sex with a middle school student who he met at the camp.

According to an arrest report, Sylvester Perrone, 19, met the girl last July when she was 13 years old and attending United Camp 2015 at Church by the Glades in Coral Springs.

"The pastors and leaders of Church by the Glades were saddened to learn about the alleged criminal and sinful behavior on the part of one of our attendees," the church said in a statement Wednesday. "Our first and greatest concern is the wellbeing, healing and protection of the victim and family. It is our desire, as always, to fully cooperate with the authorities involved in this investigation to see that justice is served."

Detectives said Perrone was involved in a sexual relationship with the girl from September 2015 to February 2016.

The Broward Sheriff's Office was contacted by the girl's parents on Feb. 6, and detectives interviewed the girl on Feb. 9.

According to the report, the girl, who is now 14 years old, confessed to having sex with Perrone about once a week.

Perrone was arrested on eight counts of sexual battery on a child.

He remains at the Broward County Main Jail.
