Deputies investigate after Nabil El Sanadi found suffering from gunshot wound

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. – Deputies are investigating after the president and chief executive officer of Broward Health died of a gunshot wound Saturday, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

The incident happened Saturday afternoon in the 5100 block of North Ocean Boulevard in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea.

Deputies said a 911 call was received at 3:56 p.m. about a person who had fallen in the restroom in the lobby of a building.

A man, later identified as Dr. Nabil El Sanadi, was found suffering from a gunshot wound, deputies said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide and crime scene detectives arrived to conduct the death investigation. Detectives said foul play is not suspected, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The Broward Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, deputies said.

El Sanadi oversaw all operations for one of the largest public health systems in the U.S., according to Broward Health's website.

“We are deeply saddened by this devastating loss and our prayers go out to his family at this time," said David DiPietro, chairman of the Broward Health Board of Commissioners.

El Sanadi was previously chief of emergency medicine for Broward Health. Officials said he was elected chairman of the Florida Board of Medicine in January 2014.

He served as emergency medical services medical director for several municipalities, Broward Health said.
