Child critical after near-drowning on cruise ship, BSO deputies say

Boy revived on board Oasis of the Seas as it returned to port

PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. – A child is in critical condition after nearly drowning on board a cruise ship, Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said.

The ship had just left Port Everglades on Saturday when a bystander noticed the child was caught in a wave pool on the 15th deck.

Cruise staff administered CPR while the ship was diverted back to the port.

BSO Department of Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said the boy didn't have a pulse and was in full cardiac arrest.

The boy was revived and taken to Broward Health Medical Center. He was not identified by deputies.

No other details were given.
