Children found in Calif. reunited with father at Miami International Airport

Steven Pena now has temporary custody of all 3 boys

MIAMI - Three South Florida children who were taken from their school and found in California have been reunited with their father.

Erin Pena, 12, Steven Pena, 8, and Derick Pena, 7, arrived at Miami International Airport on Sunday night, running into their father's arms. They were escorted by Miami-Dade school police detectives.

Police said Carrie Weingarth and her boyfriend, Christian Coello, took the boys against their will and drove them to Barstow, Calif., where they were taken into custody. Weingarth did not have legal custody of one of her children.

An investigator from the Department of Children and Families visited the boys at their father's home Monday morning.

"They're doing great," she said. "They're happy to be home."

The father, also named Steven Pena, now has temporary legal custody of all three children and is just happy to have them back home.

"They look beautiful," he said when asked how the boys looked.
