Club promoter shot, killed in Palmetto Bay

PALMETTO BAY, Fla. - A man was shot and killed in his Palmetto Bay driveway early Saturday morning after he was followed home, witnesses said.

Richard Frank Roberts said he was sitting out on his patio at around 2:30 a.m. on Southwest 176th Street and Southwest 92nd Avenue with a few friends when he heard six shots.

"It sounded like firecrackers. Bop! Bop! Bop!" Roberts said. "Then there was a pause and there was bop, bop, bop again."

Roberts said he went outside and saw a car in front of his house and three people running away.

"The car was running as if they backed up and then came back to get them," he said. "They looked at me for a second and then jumped in the car and then they left. Later on I found out my neighbor was deceased."

Friends of the victim told Local 10 he was a night club promoter coming home from a work-related party. A property record search shows the home is owned by Fredrick Duberry, although his friends told Local 10 he also went by the first name, Keith. Police have not confirmed the victim's identity to Local 10.

One of his co-workers said there was nothing about his demeanor that indicated there was anything wrong.

Neighbor Nadia Zebold said she was in disbelief that something like this could happen in her quiet neighborhood.

"I don't know what it could be about but it's not like it's a rough neighborhood and these things happen all the time. This is unusual," Zebold said. "I feel bad for the family because they are really nice people."
