MIAMI - The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for two boaters from Mexico who left for Florida 10 days ago but never arrived.

A Coast Guard news release said Thomas Rota, 40, and Megan Rota, 37, departed from Isla Mujeres, Mexico, in a 63-foot catamaran named Chelone on June 9 and were scheduled to arrive in Key West last Monday after a brief stop at the Dry Tortugas last Friday.

The Coast Guard said a family member contacted them Tuesday night and said she hadn't heard from the boaters since the day they left.

Coast Guard crews are searching for the boaters.

The Dry Tortugas are a small chain of islands about 67 miles west of Key West.
