OVERTOWN, Fla. – The ground-breaking ceremony for the new Community Center in Overtown at Third Avenue and NW 11th Street will be the home to a culinary training program, a meeting center and the main offices for the non-profit organization called P.U.L.S.E., People United to Lead the Struggle for Equality.
The project becomes a reality after receiving a $900,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce and Economic Development Administration, and a $2.1 million contribution from the Community Redevelopment Agency.
The renovations to what once was the community's church are estimated to be completed by February 2016.
