Crescent Healthcare says person or group broke into billing center

DEERFIELD, Ill. - A healthcare company began notifying potentially impacted Florida residents of an information security incident that involved their personal information.

Crescent Healthcare, Inc., a Walgreens Company, says a theft occurred at its billing center in Anaheim, Calif. on Dec. 28, 2012.

An unknown person or persons accessed the facility without permission, said Crescent Healthcare. The company says certain desktop computer hardware were stolen, along with other paper records containing employee, employee applicant and patient information.

The company said it has contacted law enforcement, filed a police report and has investigated the incident to determine the scope of information involved in the theft and which employees, employee applicants and patients were potentially affected.

Additionally, Crescent Healthcare said it has taken steps to enhance its security policies and procedures to help prevent a recurrence of this incident.

The company is now providing direct notification to employees, employee applicants and patients who may have been affected and has established a toll-free telephone number that recipients may call for further information and assistance.
