Cops: Kids in Distress worker had sex with teen

Brian Fields held on $120,000 bond

A man who worked at a home for victims of physical and sexual abuse is accused of having sex with a 15-year-old girl staying at the home.

Brian Fields, 31, was arrested Wednesday.

Fields worked at Kids in Distress in Wilton Manors and had sex with a 15-year-old girl at least four times, say police.

"This incident occurred in our shelter on an overnight shift to which he was specifically assigned," said Kids in Distress CEO Mark Dhooge. "We do have cameras in our shelter. We don't have cameras in our bathroom areas."

Last month, police charged Brian Denby with engaging in sex acts with two teenage girls who lived at the home.

Police say Fields engaged in sexual activity with one of the same girls who was assaulted by Denby. That teenager is no longer at Kids in Distress.

Fields is charged with 12 counts of lewd or lascivious acts committed in the presence of a person 12 to 16 years old. He was being held on $120,000 bond.

Fields worked at Kids in Distress for 10 years.

"There may need to be more monitoring of the children," said Wilton Manors Police Sgt. Shawn Chadwick.

Kids in Distress fired two staff members who they say should have been watching the girls. The organization is reviewing its security procedures and, as a precaution, will no longer accept children older than 12 years of age until administrators feel sure they can adequately supervise them.
