1 in custody after hit-and-run crash in Aventura

Suspect also accused of side-swiping police car during chase

AVENTURA, Fla. – One person was arrested Friday morning after a hit-and-run crash was reported in Aventura, authorities said.

Police said an officer spotted the vehicle believed to be involved in the crash and attempted to pull it over, but the driver refused to stop.

Another officer tried to assist, and the suspect side-swiped the police car, jumped out of his car and ran away, police said.

More police units were called in and a perimeter was set up in the area of East Dixie Highway and Northeast 215th Street, where the suspect was taken into custody.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The suspect's identity was not immediately released.
