Man pulls 11-year-old girl into car in Pompano Beach, tries to rape her

BSO says girl walking to school on Copans Road when man pulled her into car

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted abduction of an 11-year-old girl.

BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said the girl was walking to Palm View Elementary School on East Copans Road about 7 a.m. Wednesday when she noticed a black four-door car driving past her several times.

When she approached Copans Road and First Avenue, a man got out of the car, grabbed her and pulled her inside, Carter said.

The man drove around for several minutes before parking the car in an alley between Northeast Third Avenue and Dixie Highway, near Northeast 21st Street, Carter said.

When the man tried to force the girl to have sex with him, she opened the passenger door and ran away, Carter said.

"She fought her way out," family friend Nakenya Robinson said. "She could have just sat there in the vehicle, but she actually fought her way out."

Carter said special victims unit detectives are investigating and do not believe that the incident is connected to the attempted abduction of a 13-year-old girl in the area on March 2.

Deputies are asking anyone with information to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
