HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Hollywood police arrested two people Thursday night in connection with the attempted robbery of a North Miami Beach police officer and a woman.
Hollywood police spokeswoman Miranda Grossman said the suspects, Kevin Paz, 20, and Shadik Perch, 23, were arrested after detectives received tips from the public after the incident was reported in the media and shared on social media.
The incident was reported early Wednesday in the 300 block of Minnesota Street.
Bob Ferro, who owns Nick's Bar & Grill, told Local 10 News reporter Glenna Milberg that the officer and a woman were walking on Hollywood Beach after eating at a beach-side restaurant when they were ambushed by two young men who were armed.
Ferro said the couple was likely walking to their car when the incident occurred, which was captured on surveillance cameras at his business.
Ferro said the officer pulled out his gun and fired at the robbers, who ran away.
"The officer shot at him. They just ran when they saw his weapon," he said.
Authorities said no property was taken from the victims.
Grossman said a concerned citizen called police Thursday night after seeing two people who matched the descriptions of the suspects and the getaway vehicle near the same area where the attempted robbery happened.
Officers said they responded to the area and found Paz and Perch inside the car.
They were both taken into custody and are expected to be charged with attempted robbery.
