2 golden retrievers shot by BB gun in Pembroke Pines backyard, police say

Dog named Madie died from injuries

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Two golden retrievers were shot early this month in Pembroke Pines, authorities said.

Pembroke Pines police released surveillance video Thursday that captured the dogs being shot about 8:50 p.m. Dec. 3 in Pasadena Lakes on Northwest 82nd Terrace.

Police said Charles Mione returned home to find his female golden retriever, Madie, dead in his backyard.

His male golden retriever, Max, was injured.

"I saw my dogs actually getting shot. That's where she expired," Mione told Local 10 News reporter Carlos Suarez.

Detectives later determined that the dogs had been struck with steel BBs.

Madie was also found to have been previously struck by BBs on an unknown date, authorities said.

Max is currently in stable condition after receiving medical care.

Surveillance video from Mione's home shows his dogs sleeping in the backyard when they were awoken by something.

The video shows both dogs being struck by BBs as they were standing by a rear door.

Detectives later recovered additional surveillance video from a neighbor, which shows a bald man walking away from the crime scene while carrying what appears to be a rifle.

The footage was captured about two hours after the shooting while officers were still at the scene, authorities said.

Police believe the person captured on video is related to the shooting and is someone who is familiar with the dogs and possibly lives in the area.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Pembroke Pines Police Department at 954-431-2225 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
