2 in custody, 2 at large after crash, shooting in Opa-locka

1 man hospitalized, condition unknown

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – Police have two men in custody as they search for two others involved in a crash and shooting in Opa-locka Thursday morning, authorities said.

According to detectives, four men inside a Ford F-150 fired at a black BMW at the intersection of Opa-locka Boulevard and Northwest 22nd Avenue, causing the driver of the BMW to crash into a truck, which ended up rear-ending a dump truck.

Police said the gunmen made a U-turn and fired more shots at the BMW.

The victim was shot multiple times and airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. His condition has not been released, but authorities said he is conscious and is expected to be interviewed by a detective.

According to police, the gunmen crashed their pickup truck in North Miami at Northeast 148th Street and North Spur Drive and took off running.

"I was, you know, messing on my phone and walking into the bathroom, and the next thing I know is a car crashes right into our den on the side of the house," homeowner David Ross said. "They crashed right through these bushes. This is a pretty thick hedge (and) they smashed our neighbors mailbox, which is made out of cement so this guy must have been going like 60, 70 mph."

Another resident in the area, Billy Mak, told Local 10 News that the gunmen ran into his back yard.

"I hear somebody walking that way," Mak said. "I don't know if they were just trying to hide. My thought is there were at least two on my property."

Police said two men were arrested and they are still searching for two others.

"I'm like, 'Don't y'all have dogs?'" Mak said. "My dog could have found (them) in two minutes. He was going crazy."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471--TIPS.
