POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Two juveniles were arrested Friday after leading police on a short chase and then crashing a stolen vehicle in Pompano Beach, authorities said.

Coconut Creek police said a stationary license plate reader got a hit on the stolen vehicle at Northwest 43rd Avenue and Coconut Creek Parkway.

Police tried to pull over a gray Hyundai Santa Fe, which had three people inside, but the driver refused to stop, police said.

Police called off the chase after following the car to Northwest 31st Avenue.

Police said the driver ran a stop sign at Northwest 27th Avenue and Fourth Street in Pompano Beach and crashed into two other vehicles.

"I was down on the other end and I just heard the crash. Boom. Yeah, it was real loud, because I was way down there," Vivian Stubbs said.

Two juveniles were taken into custody at the scene and one person ran away.

The suspects were taken to Northwest Medical Center with minor injuries.

A woman and her child who were in another vehicle were taken to Northwest Medical Center to be evaluated, although they did not have any visible injuries.

Anna Canada told Local 10 News reporter Todd Tongen that she was driving through the intersection with her 3-year-old daughter when she got hit.

She said she got treated for a burn from the airbag, but said her daughter wasn't injured.

"Thank God I was on a street where the speed is less. If not, only God knows what would have happened," she said.

The driver of a van that was also struck was not injured.

Anyone with information about the subject at large is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
