4 questioned after dump trucks stolen in Miami Beach

Vehicles recovered in Hialeah, Collier County

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Four people were questioned Thursday after four dump trucks were stolen in Miami Beach, authorities said.

The trucks, owned by Lanzo Construction, were parked at a construction yard just off the Julia Tuttle Causeway overnight when they were stolen.

Hialeah police Sgt. Carl Zogby said one of the trucks was found about 8 a.m. in the area of West 19th Court and 72nd Street.

A Lanzo Construction employee told Local 10 News that the expensive dump trucks are usually blocked in every night with other construction equipment, but that wasn't done Wednesday night.

Authorities said three of the dump trucks were found Thursday morning in Collier County, and a fourth was found in Hialeah.

Authorities in Collier County said one of the trucks was spotted by a deputy, who attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Deputies said the driver stopped the vehicle and ran away.

Police said four others spotted in a Dodge Charge in Collier County were interviewed by detectives and released. Authorities do not have anyone in custody.

Authorities said the trucks' GPS systems helped police locate the vehicles quickly.

A Lanzo construction employee said thieves typically steal the trucks for the parts, or they paint over them, refurbish them, and then sell and re-use the vehicles.
