Arrest made in fatal West Park shooting

Everette Slocum, 23, found at Lauderdale Lakes strip mall

WEST PARK, Fla. – A man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a fatal shooting last month in West Park.

The shooting was reported shortly before 11:30 p.m. April 13 in the 5400 block of Southwest 23rd Street.

Deputies said Cody Sanders, 26, was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, where he died.

Authorities said Everette Slocum, 23, of Pembroke Pines, was arrested Wednesday at a strip mall in Lauderdale Lakes.

A motive for the shooting has not been released.

Detectives are still investigating another fatal shooting that was reported about an hour before the Sanders shooting in the area of Southwest 46th Avenue and 22nd Street. 

Deputies said a 9-year-old child, identified as Kalaya Clark, and a man, Tyrell Jamar Myrick, 28, were injured in the shooting while sitting in a car.

Kalaya's mother, Patrice Simone Nunnally, 28, was taken to a hospital, where she died.

Investigators said it was unclear whether the shootings are related.
