Ballistic glass saves cashier during attempted robbery at Miami-Dade gas station

Would-be robber leaves store empty handed, police say

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police are searching for a man who was captured on surveillance video trying to rob a gas station clerk in southwest Miami-Dade County.

The robbery was reported just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday at an Exxon gas station at 11191 SW 176th St.

Police said a man, who was covering his face with a black mask, entered the store, pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the clerk and demanded money from the register.

Police said the clerk, who was behind a counter protected by ballistic glass, refused to comply and called police.

Authorities said the would-be robber fired a shot, striking the ballistic glass.

Video showed that the man also tried to make several unsuccessful attempts to gain access to the register before leaving empty handed.

The cashier was not injured.

Anyone with information about the man's identity is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
