Burglary suspect tells police he saw himself on news

Jorge Nunez confesses to multiple burglaries, police say

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Upon his arrest, a man accused of multiple burglaries in Miami-Dade County told police he was watching the news on TV when saw surveillance video of himself robbing a home. 

Jorge Nunez, 21, confessed to smashing a sliding glass door of a home in the 5200 block of Southwest 152nd Street on Sept. 19, taking a computer and tablet valued at $2,100, according to an arrest form.

The victim called police and surveillance footage of the burglary was released to news outlets and circulated through social media.

Nunez was arrested Tuesday in connection to another burglary. 

After being read his rights, Nunez confessed to committing the Sept. 19 burglary, telling police that the laptop and tablet were sold to an unknown North Miami store shortly afterward.

He then said he saw himself in the surveillance footage released to news outlets.

Nunez is also accused of breaking into three other residences between Sept. 15 and Sunday in southwest Miami-Dade County.

He is accused of taking items, including miscellaneous jewelry,  flat screen televisions, swords, digital cameras and a semi-automatic pistol, police said. 

The stolen pistol was kept in a holster, loaded with a full magazine and had a chambered round.

A witness who claimed to have seen Nunez, his girlfriend and another man at a home that was burglarized picked Nunez out of a photographic lineup.

Nunez was arrested on charges of burglary, grand theft and criminal mischief.
