Businessman's Ferrari recovered days before he was found dead at Fort Lauderdale home

Guy Eargle Jr., 68, found dead Monday by friends, authorities say

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A businessman's stolen white Ferrari was recovered by authorities last weekend, days before he was found dead Monday inside his home in Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.

Fort Lauderdale police said in a news release Friday that the damaged vehicle was recovered Saturday night by Broward Sheriff's Office deputies in the 2600 block of Northwest Ninth Court in Pompano Beach.

Guy Eargle Jr., 68, was found dead two days later inside his home at 429 SE 17th Ave.

Detectives released surveillance video Friday that shows a person of interest in the killing.

Police said the man was captured on video in the same area where the vehicle was recovered.

Friends of the victim told Local 10 News reporter Derek Shore that Eargle was a single businessman and a multi-millionaire.

"He was an outstanding individual," Joseph E. Dicorpo said. "He was very wealthy, but extremely generous with his wealth."

Dicorpo said friends found Eargle on Monday, but he was likely dead for days. He said everyone who knew him is shocked by the killing.

"According to my friends, (he) didn't respond any messages or phone calls which, quite honestly, is unlike him," Dicorpo said.

Detectives have not publicly disclosed the manner in which the victim was killed.

A motive for the killing is unknown.

Authorities said Eargle lives part-time in Florida and part-time in Atlanta.

"We can't believe that this has happened," DiCorpo said. "We are desperately hoping that the Fort Lauderdale Police Department and other agencies will find these people very quickly and bring them to justice."

Police said the homicide investigation and circumstances surrounding the killing are still being determined.
