Duck Key woman accused of mailing drugs to Monroe County detention center

Nadine Carroll, 55, was trying to get drugs to daughter, deputies say

DUCK KEY, Fla. – A woman from Duck Key was arrested on a warrant Thursday for trying to mail drugs to her daughter last month at a Monroe County detention center, authorities said.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said Nadine Carroll, 55, mailed an envelope containing Buprenorphine to the Stock Island Detention Center.

Herrin said the envelope was addressed to Carroll's daughter, Shannon Carroll, who was arrested Sept. 15 on charges of possession of cocaine and driving with a suspended license.

"The envelope was intercepted by a detention deputy at the facility who noticed a chemical smell from the envelope, and saw an unknown substance on the envelope once he opened it," Herrin said in a statement.

The substance tested positive as Buprenorphine, a synthetic opioid.

Carroll faces a charge of smuggling contraband into a detention facility. Her daughter also remains in jail.
