Phernando Hill arrested after woman calls 911

Phernando Hill is accused of threatening a woman with a nail-studded 2x4.

MARATHON, Fla. – A Florida Keys man was arrested Saturday morning after he threatened to hit a woman with a nail-studded wooden 2x4, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

Phernando Hill, 33, of Marathon, was holding a piece of wood with nails sticking out of it when Deputy Jose Hernandez arrived about 7:30 a.m., Herrin said. Hill appeared to be threatening to hit the 27-year-old woman with it.

Hernandez ordered Hill to drop the board, which he did, Herrin said.

Hill told the deputy that he believes the woman broke into his apartment and stole his rent money, Herrin said.

The woman said she was at her stepfather's apartment when Hill showed up and threw a chair at the door. She called 911, and that's when Hill threatened her with the board, Herrin said.

Hill was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and resisting a law enforcement officer without violence.
